Who is beauty?
The expert compilers of European record label Wagram in collaboration with the editors of Elle magazine have selected the cream of female voices from around the world in this superb compilation called Voices Of Beauty. It really is kinda special, a femme fatale led foray into the world of roots, indie and dreamy pop music from some of the champions of the underground scene alongside a handful of larger known players. Featured artists include Canadian folkster Feist, French bossa/post punk outfit Nouvelle Vague, ex-Portishead vocalist, Beth Gibbons, Americana/blues sweetheart Norah Jones, Brazilian legend Bebel Gilberto amongst many others. It’s subtle and calming, a treat for discerning lovers of music with soul and thanks to Creative Vibes we have eight copies of the album to give away to random emailers with their address and the name of the favourite female vocalist in the body of the message.

It’s so refreshing to come across an illustrator who still gets kicks from beautifully rendering a face, every strand of hair, every wrinkle in their clothing, and then turn around and subvert it all with a big bag of creative tricks. After weeks of packing Australia’s crate with the best of Aussie nightlife, our crate was farewelled in lavish style at the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange send-off party in Sydney last week. We discovered Australia is swapping with Brazil, so we’re hanging out for the samba and cachaça to sway ashore and lead us astray. Lost At E Minor contributor Michelle Wilding captured the vibe of the night and Aussie nightlife with this video.
These ‘manner posters’ appeared in Tokyo subways between 1976 and 1982, informing passengers on subway etiquette and good manners. We’re not sure why it didn’t catch on elsewhere — a colourful and entertaining poster versus a crackly intercom message from a bored driver? Hmm. The posters were published in a book, Manner Poster 100′, printed in 1983 by Teito Rapid Transit Authority. Read more
