Australian company Third Drawer Down are doing some really interesting and creative things with traditionally dull household products such as aprons and napkins. Their mission statement is to ‘promote an ongoing dialogue between art and everyday life, whilst promoting the work of local and international artists and designers by placing art into the most domestic of circumstances’. Their latest range of tea towels does just that through the vibrant work of David Shrigley, Cecile Belmont and James Gallagher amongst several others. James Gallagher’s collaged images have been shown in galleries in New York, London, Los Angeles and San Francisco and he has recently created work for Arkitip, Tylenol, J & L Books, Wooster Collective, Nerve.com and The New York Times. Thanks to Third Drawer Down we have two Gallagher tea towels to give away to random emailers with something funny (and tasty) in the body of the message. Ok, onto other things and there’s some really cool photographs up on Leigh Courtney’s website. He takes a highly conceptual and experimental approach to his work which is both thematic and challenging. Also worth spending some time on is the latest issue of PDF magazine, Deconstructed. ‘Ordinary Days’ features the work of twenty artists across ninety pages.
