Eduardo Recife brings a sophisticated sensibility to his designs, drawings, photos, and typefaces. ‘He crafts his art mostly by hand and employs the computer to enhance the personal touch and not to obscure it. Evidence of decay in his work reflects his recognition of the decadence of the life around him, notably urban and at times distinctly Brazilian. His work is almost tactile and sensory, and his inky flourishes and odd juxtapositions persuade us to share his almost childlike wonder, a wonder he values for lifting our eyes from the sidewalks of our daily grinds. He produces his artworks for himself, for magazines and art journals, and while he sells a few of his typefaces, many are available free’. Explore with a curious mind. Till next time

Crimea X is the coming together of two offbeat, disparate characters, DJ Rocca (Ajello, Super Sonic Lovers, Maffia Sound System) and Jukka Reverberi from 90s Italian glam cult rockers, Giardini di Mirò, who have often have been compared with the sound of Mogwai, Arab Strap, and Godspeed You! I have a weak spot for the work of New York illustrator You Byun. Her pastel, Miyazaki-esque landscapes populated with their saucer eyed creatures just make me swoon. It reminds me of several other well-known illustrators working today, but I feel that she is onto something spectacular that will simply continue to evolve until we’re all just utterly blown out of the water.

Comedy troupe Summer of Tears edited itself into the classic ’80s movie Teen Wolf, starring Michael J. Fox, providing a new and gut-bustingly hilarious side-plot.
Austin band The Low Lows are one of my most prized finds of the year so far. It’s introspective music — staggered harmonies delivered by a distant, agonised voice that filters through a wall of tranquil guitar distortion and measured drumming. Every instrument carries a powerful emotion, sometimes keeping their distance from one another, floating up and around the airwaves, and other times colliding and crashing back to earth.
