On Invicid’s latest range there are no logos on the outside of the clothing. So you need to look inside the shirts to actually find out the designer of the prints. Which I reckon is pretty damn smart. Shrouded under the bright colours and otherworldly shapes of Invicid’s artistic vision lies t-shirts with names like Spacewalkers, Bubblegum Popstar and Clean Air Act. Yup, Invicid represents art as clothing. The medium is cloth, but the application more resembles fine art. Ideas are presented, but the answers remain subjective. Or something like that. All Invicid shirts are hand screen-printed in small runs, using thinly deposited inks on American Apparel fabric. Check them out online. I think they’re damn fine, so we’ve got hold of a Bubblegum Popstar print in silver to giveaway to a random emailer with the best damn meaning of life in the body of the message. And, yes, we like bribes. Things that whisper sweet nuthins are good.

The Park8 Hotel is one of Sydney’s lesser known boutique hotels, but it’s the place to stay if you fancy taking Sydney by foot. Around the corner is Sydney’s busiest shopping strip, the Pitt Street Mall. And across the road is the iconic Hyde Park. Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Darling Harbour are not far from the Park8. We stayed in a 1 bedroom loft apartment, which includes a wonderfully large spa bath and rainshower. Read more

Christian Northeast’s work often reminds me of Terry Gilliam’s. It has a much more vaudevillian/Americana feel to it, and he incorporates a lot more original work into his collages. Read more

The Deal sisters have dropped off the indie-rock radar of late, but this clip of them covering Hank Williams’ I Can’t Help It reminds us why we all loved them so much back in the day. Incidentally, the Breeders are set to release their new album, Mountain Battles, in April.

Music isn’t necessarily a serious venture. It’s almost funny when you find some you know will grate to dust the stiff upper lipped critics of the world. Every now and then I like the type of sound that hops around the edge of your ears without working its way into your brain and messing up the seratonin levels. And Californian 16-piece tropical-ska-pop group, Still Flyin’, do just that for me. It’s a good laugh, quite catchy, and an awesome live experience so I’m told: especially with the sun out, a can of cider in your hand and a bunch of grinning faces skanking around you.
