Drawing to a whole
There’s nothing better than a well-written blog – that introspective slither of someone else’s world – and I’ve been enjoying reading the Lady Cracker one over the past few days. It’s a nice mix of quirky lists and biting social commentary all wrapped up in the poetic ambiguity of Lady Cracker’s random musings. Another site I love is Cool Hunting, a New York based portal into everything hip and happening. They source out the hottest new products and deliver them deliciously in the form of a well taken snap and a short written tease. Always worth a good look, especially to catch the next wave of designer gadget goodies. Away from the net, there’s an Australian produced magazine called Dumbo-Feather – Pass It On which is doing interesting things with its content and design. With its thick paper stock and anti-commercial approach, the magazine more resembles a book, taking a nice swipe at the throwaway mantras of the mainstream publishing houses with it’s left-of-centre editorial. The current issue includes an excerpt from Lost At E Minor in which I discussed a dream that I had as part of a larger feature on dream analysis and the whole thing has been very nicely presented by the Saatchi design team. The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single Cookie. Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop.

Using Kyoko Hashimoto’s popular design, these acrylic earrings are made with unique hand formed sterling silver sleepers that make them light enough for everyday wear. Part of Kyoko’s collection, I Blame the Uni, (pronounced ‘oo-nee’, the Japanese name for sea urchin) and inspired by her experiences in the underground club scene of Tokyo. Read more
